On November 25, Mr. Bloomberg held his first campaign rally in Norfolk, Virginia after announcing his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination the day before.
The billionaire, chairman of the famous media group Bloomberg LP, admitted that he changed his decision at the last minute to participate in the race for the White House next year because he was worried that the current Democratic candidates would lose.
“I think there will be a bigger threat when Mr. Trump is re-elected like he was the first time he was elected.
The 77-year-old billionaire announced in March that he would not run for office in 2020.
Mr. Bloomberg also explained that he did not receive any political donations for the election, amid criticism from Democratic political opponents that the businessman and former New York Mayor was using his fortune.
“For many years, I have used my resources to do things that I care about.
He also pledged that in his election plan, he would pay attention to the issue of `increasing taxes on rich people like me`.
Bloomberg said he chose Norfolk, Virginia as his first stop on the campaign trail to protest gun violence and help other Democrats.
In 2019, Democrats took complete control of both chambers in Virginia for the first time in more than two decades after the state legislative election.
In 2018, Mr. Bloomberg spent more than $100 million to help the Democratic Party regain control of the House of Representatives after the midterm elections, a move that was believed to help him gain support from members of his own government.
When asked about the impeachment investigation that the US House of Representatives is conducting against Mr. Trump, Mr. Bloomberg said that if he were a congressman he would vote for the impeachment of the current president.
