The victory over North Korea at the 2023 Asian Games (ASIAD 19) helped the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team make history by reaching the Top 4 of the volleyball event at an ASIAD for the first time.
The match against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on October 4, 2023 within the framework of the ASIAD 19 women’s volleyball tournament is especially important for coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team.
Previously, Korea’s spectacular comeback helped Vietnam put one foot in the semi-finals when the teams that faced each other in the first group round would not meet and kept their previous results in the second group round.
This means that Thanh Thuy and her teammates only need to win against North Korea to confidently advance to the semi-finals of the Asian Games.
Vietnamese women’s volleyball recorded historic achievements at ASIAD 19
Not disappointing the millions of sobbing hearts at home, the Vietnamese players played with excitement and a red flag with a yellow star on their chests.
The brightest star is none other than team captain Tran Thi Thanh Thuy.
The 1m93 tall striker scored 25 points, including 2 blocking points and 2 aces.

The girls of the Vietnamese team did their best, including in the semi-finals against Japan and the bronze medal match against Thailand – opponents who were superior to us.
With the final 4th place, the girls of the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team made history by becoming one of the four strongest teams at this tournament for the first time.
In two previous participations at Qatar 2006 and Indonesia 2010, our women’s volleyball team finished the tournament in 7th and 6th place, respectively. This ranking at ASIAD 19 has confirmed outstanding progress.
